Program Structure

Four Program Components

1. Madrid
Your program gets off to a great start with three days in Madrid, visiting the major sites and staying in a high quality hotel in the heart of the city.

2. Nerja
Two weeks living in a centrally located residence. Enjoy daily morning classes and fun afternoon activities, including kayaking, beach volleyball and a full-day excursion to Granada.

3. One week of individual immersion
One week living individually with a volunteer family in Seville. An incredible opportunity to improve your Spanish. Spend a whole week totally immersed in Spanish family life. There are no ECI group activities, but your chaperones will be on-hand throughout.

4. Barcelona
One of the most popular cities in all of Europe. Modern, vibrant and fabulous, Barcelona is a great place to end your Spanish adventure and experience the final four nights. See all the sites past and present, from Gaudi’s spectacular Sagrada Familia to the famous Barcelona FC soccer stadium, Camp Nou.

Classes and Activities

Classes

Earn university credit by taking two weeks of classes in small groups at our partner Spanish language school. Take part in daily lessons with a focus on conversation and getting as much practice as possible in spoken Spanish.

Language Partners

To enhance Spanish language learning we developed our unique Language Partner program – structured conversational sessions with Spanish teens and university students.

Cultural activities

Nerja is an ideal study location, but also a wonderful town for beach activities such as kayaking and volleyball. It also has many places of local cultural interest, including the famous Nerja Caves. Included are a range of fun, hands-on activities such as a cooking class and salsa dance session.

Immersion Week

Unique Individual Immersion in Seville

We are the only high school Study Abroad organization that offers this amazing opportunity. There is no more effective way to improve your Spanish than to live in total immersion with a volunteer family.

This component is what sets ECI apart from other Summer Study Abroad organizations. You will live with a volunteer Spanish family in the historic Andalusian city of Seville. No classes, no group activities, no English. Simply one week of Spanish culture, Spanish family life and Spanish language.

This is true language immersion.
