Monday July 10th

At 1pm our bus departed to Elmstein, a village in the Pfalzerwald.

Once there we got our equipment and off to the woods we went. The weather was perfect, not too hot, and no rain.

All the students seemed to have a great time on the two hour (which ended up being almost three hours) zip line tour. Sliding between trees brought much laughter.

Friday July 7th

The day began with a thunderstorm and rain.

So we headed to Schwetzingen, a beautiful  town just 10km north of Heidelberg, to go to an in-and-outdoor swimming pool.

The weather improved. After our swim, we enjoyed lunch as a group at an Italian pizzeria.

Before heading back to Heidelberg we got a look at the castle and gardens.

Thursday July 6th

Today we cycled 25km  along the banks of the Neckar River – it was a beautiful but very hot day.

The town of Ladenburg was our destination. Once there we went to the Mercedes Benz museum, which everyone really enjoyed, followed by some free time to walk along the beautiful alleys in the old inner-town walls in Ladenburg.

And back home we went in the heat. We all needed a big cooling off after our cycling adventure!

Wednesday July 5th

The morning was spent at school experiencing the life of German school students.

In the evening the students went on a guided ghost tour through the old town of Heidelberg. A few German students and parents joined us for the entertaining ‘blast from the past’.

The guide, dressed as a Night Watchman, knew all about the mystic legends and places from the past century. Thankfully it was the perfect weather for our tour.

Tuesday July 4th

Yesterday the students were shadowing their German hosts in their school, and again really enjoyed the experience!

Today they went on a trip to Speyer, which has an old cathedral and is a  beautiful town. After a historic tour of the cathedral they got to go to the Technical Museum. This was educational and  fun, and they got to explore the world of planes, space and engineering.

After a day of exploring and  German public transport, tomorrow another day of German school awaits.
