Salamanca Day 1

This morning the group did some light shopping before jumping on the bus to Salamanca.

Once we got settled into our dorm rooms and had dinner together in the residence hall, we headed out on our first tour of Salamanca.

We saw the old and new cathedral, house of shells, the university where Iannis just defended his dissertation, and the gardens of Calisto and Melibea. Each student was able to locate the frog on the university wall meaning they will successfully graduate from their future university studies.

Nice: June 29th

After a win for our Brazilian ECI group members, we’re now cheering on Mexico with some new friends from Azurlingua. The World Cup is such an exciting time to be at an international school! Tomorrow we are ready to start our French lessons and then visit Florian, a specialty candy factory, to discover the secrets of making caramelized fruits and candied flowers. Miam! A demain! 馃檪

Nice is so Nice!
Bonjour from the glittering Cote d’Azur! After a breezy and safe arrival, our group has settled in nicely to our beautiful dorms, housed in the palace of a former Russian tzar! In between meeting new friends and getting settled in our dorms looking out to the seaside, we managed to squeeze in a special viewing of the Brazil vs. Chile match of the World Cup — and happily celebrated a great match together.

After a good night’s rest we are ready to take on les galets – the pebbles of the famous Nice beach — and take a dip in the Mediterranean. A bient么t!

Le soleil toute l’ann茅e…
They say the sun is always shining on the C么t茅 d’Azur, but today seems to be an exception! A few clouds aren’t getting us down (they never last long anyway), and shopping in Vieux Nice is just the solution. After a walk down the Promenade des Anglais to see the Ironman competition, we spent the afternoon wandering the charming streets of the Old city, taking in the sights, sounds, and smells of our beautiful city. And sure enough – out came the sun in plenty of time to profit from some beach time before dinner on the famed Cours Saleya. Bisous!

Today we had a full day of activities starting with a visit to the Royal Palace. Here we visited only a handful of the 3,418 rooms! Some rooms had walls of porcelain and others of silk. It was quite a tour. We also wandered through the armory with an array of full armor for adults, children, and horses. From the palace we jumped on the metro to visit the Bernab茅u soccer stadium. Paige and Annie were lucky to catch a photo with Ronaldo.

After Bernab茅u we retreated to Retiro Park. Here the students rented some row boats and then explored only a slice of the 350 acres of gardens, lakes, and statues.

After a satisfying Italian dinner we visited a beautiful rooftop terrace on the 9th floor of the Corte Ingl茅s. Here we said adios to Madrid by taking in the stunning views of the city center.

We will miss Madrid, but look forward to our next adventure in Salamanca!

Taking a rest prior to heading to the Reina Sofia

Olivia and John content with their Churros

Today we started the morning with a delicious breakfast in the hotel. We then headed off to our first museum, the Prado. We managed to visit all three floors, and Annie’s background in art came in very handy! After a quick coffee break and lunch, we headed to the Reina Sofia to see some modern art. Dal铆 was a hit. For dinner we went to a gourmet buffet and were impressed with Thatcher’s ability to consume! 馃檪 After a walking tour of some busy streets and plazas,聽we headed to Valor to enjoy the famous Chocolate con Churros. Tomorrow we have a full day visiting a palace, park, and stadium.
