Four program components

1. Madrid
Your adventure begins with three fantastic days in Madrid, visiting the major sites and staying in a high quality hotel in the heart of the city.

2. Salamanca
Two weeks living in a centrally located student dorm. Enjoy daily morning classes and afternoon hands-on and cultural activities, ranging from Spanish cooking classes to visiting a traditional Spanish ranch.

3. One week of Individual Immersion
One week living individually with a carefully chosen family in San Sebastian. There is no better way to improve your Spanish. During this week you will be completely immersed with your host family. There are no ECI group activities, but your chaperones will be available to you throughout.

4. Southern tour
You will see many of the amazing highlights of Spain. After Madrid, Salamanca and San Sebastian, ECI takes you south to Seville, Granada and the beautiful beach town of Nerja on the Costa del Sol.[/expand]

Classes

Excellent classes in small international groups. Classes take place every morning and include conversation and grammar practice, and there is the option to earn university credit.

Language Partners

To complement classes we have our unique Language Partner program – structured conversational sessions with Spanish teens and university students.

Cultural activities

Experience Spanish culture first-hand through a range of fun daily and weekend activities – including a full-day trip to Segovia, a visit to a bullfighting arena, and a Spanish art workshop.[/expand]

Unique Individual Immersion in the north of Spain

No other program offers you this amazing opportunity. Your spoken Spanish will improve enormously.

This component is what sets ECI apart from other Summer Study Abroad organizations. You will live with a volunteer Spanish family in the beautiful northern city of San Sebastian. No classes, no group activities, no English. Simply one week of Spanish culture, Spanish family life and Spanish language.

This is true language immersion.

Student testimonials

ECI Student Pearl Willmer-ShilesMy Spanish improved an incredible amount during the immersion week, but in the dorm I was able to spend time and get to know kids on the trip, some of which I know will be my friends for life. I loved my teachers and it was really interesting to learn Spanish with people from all over the world. I became ten times more confident in my ability to speak Spanish.

Pearl Willmer-Shiles

ECI Student Joe ChafkinMy host family was very accommodating and nice. The host family took my Spanish to an entirely new level. I felt like a member of the family. I was able to make Spanish friends and get an inside view of the culture. Immersion was a key factor in acquiring fluency. The dorm gave us adequate time to transition into Spanish culture and helped me get comfortable in Spain before Immersion.

Joe Chafkin

ECI Student Hannah MezheritskyA great trip to Spain! Lots of memories made and a great experience. You have to come in with an open mind because you’ll always be exposed to completely new experiences. When you’re open to trying new things, you’ll always be pleasantly surprised.

Hannah Mezheritsky

ECI Student Gabriel GrandMy host brother introduced me to his friends and made a special effort to include me. Staying with an immersion family was the best possible way in my opinion to immerse myself in Spanish culture. The Immersion Week was by far the best part of the entire trip. I wish I could have stayed longer with my family.
