The rain finally stopped and we had sunny and warm day! The girls we even able to get some sunbathing time in at the park.

Directly after lunch we were invited to the city hall to meet the head of tourism in Salamanca. After his speech we were able to step out onto the balcony of the city hall and take some pictures! Very few people are invited to this balcony overlooking the Plaza Mayor.

After lunch we went to a tile painting workshop. Here we learned some painting basics, and the instructor guided us along. Annie impressed us all with her sunset painting!

After painting the students decided to have some hamburgers for dinner to celebrate the Fourth of July!

Tomorrow we have an early morning as we are off to Segovia.

After a delicious chicken lunch, Thatcher proved to us his pull up record! After a short time to rest, we headed out to our bull fighting class despite the rain. The students learned some of the bull fighting history and got some great pics. Luckily the rain let up as we retuned from bull fighting.

After a group dinner with croquetas, we took a walk out to our second salsa class at an actual salsa dance club. The students learned quickly and were completing full turns with one another by the end if the night. Olivia was selected as the demonstrator and impressed us all! This group has a lot of natural talent and willingness to learn!

Tomorrow we have a special invitation to meet the assistant to the mayor and see the inside of the city hall. Stay posted…

Salamanca Day 4

This afternoon started with a fun salsa class with a few other international students from our language institute. John showed us some robot moves, Olivia impressed us all, and Thatcher was a natural salsa dancer.

Directly after the class we headed to a cooking class and learned how to make a typical Spanish dessert called Torrija. Torrija is similar to French toast, but uses a thicker bread and a splash of Anís. Paige and Kylie took charge of the cooking and we all devoured the results!

After our classes the weather took a turn for the worse and we took shelter in our dorms from the rain. Luckily we had changed our evening plans to watch a movie at the language school instead of the movie theater several blocks away.

At the language school, the student chose their own movie, Los Otros with Nicole Kidman.

After the movie it was time for dinner and a laid back night in the dorms.

Tomorrow we are crossing our fingers for better weather!

The beginning of our day consisted of Spanish classes, lunch, siestas, and shopping.

In the late afternoon we went on a group tour of the new and old cathedral. After climbing up hundreds of stairs, we enjoyed incredible views from the bell tower. When five o’ clock hit, we all jumped at the surprise of the bell tolls.

After some downtime and dinner, we headed out to watch the USA vs Belgium game. The students were not shy to join up with a larger group of US fans to enjoy the game in the animated plaza mayor.

We were sad to have lost the game, but enjoyed the experience of the  fútbol spirit in Spain!

Salamanca Day 2

Today the students started off the morning with their Spanish classes. Despite a couple of level changes, the students are happy with their teachers and classmates. After our daily meeting and lunch in the dorms we headed out for a tour of Salamanca with another group from Holland and Italy.

Following a bit of down time (and fun photos) we met up for a dinner of eggs and potatoes in the dorm. Later the students enjoyed an hour and a half conversing in Spanish with their language partners.
